What are we trying to achieve?

The idea is to have spacemen, riding sausage dogs on the moon with an unrealistic gravity that gives a comical side effect to the “underside” of the moon, which means the arms will “fall” like if you are upside down in earths gravity, yet the rest of the character sticks to the moon surface.

Combining two rigs into one using KineFX

Our source rigs are two rigs from sketchfab, a “game ready” sausage dog that has several animation clips and a spaceman that only has a short idle animation. We want to combine these two rigs, so the spaceman is riding the dog.

Kinefx has made this process quite a bit easier than it used to be. In normal terms we can straight up combine the two rigs, by merging together the two outputs from the fbx character import.

In the animation channel (right output ‘yellow”), I am transforming and lining up the spaceman's hip joint with the sausage dog’s hip as I knew that was where I wanted him to sit.

Important notes:

Adding helmet bowls to the sausage dogs

Sticking agents to a non-flat terrain

Agents following a moving target

Setting up partial ragdoll
